This project was invited by Tai O Cultural Association (TOCA) and the event was sponsored by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. The programme aimed to promote Tai O, a Hong Kong heritage of fish village with its special culture and living style.
Community Theatre Performance : The Fish of Yesterday
The performance was developed from a narration of an old lady who devoted her life to marriage and lived in a floating house. The story was focused on the landscape change and how it affected/stayed the lives of the people as time went by.
Installation and narration on Tai O people’s history with the land:
1. A son who inherited the family industry of making shrimp paste (a local food).
2. On Christmas night of the surrender, World War II in Hong Kong.
3. A girl who watched movies in a salt field in the 1950s.
4. A young man decided to stay in the old village.
5. An artist who recorded Tai O’s old times with his sketch.
